The Monotone explores perception as a computational act. Using TouchDesigner's MediaPipe integration, the piece tracks and translates ambient brightness into visual form — facial features, colour blocks, and spatial data rendered through the eye of a machine. The work asks: beyond human vision, might other modes of sensing exist? The camera becomes an instrument of analysis rather than documentation, producing a visual language of particles, masks, and glitch — forms that feel simultaneously archival and alive. Four effect sequences — particle fields, geometric masks, dynamic bars, and glitch cubes — are composed into a single continuous edit. Sharing the same black ground and initialization logic, each transitions seamlessly into the next, as if one sustained perception. The compression artifacts introduced by TouchDesigner's video export are kept intact. In their loss, something is gained: a texture reminiscent of 1980s analog broadcast — monochrome, flickering, familiar in its distance.
